We are proposing to replace the line insulation systems on 14 transmission lines on South Australia’s transmission network in multiple regions to maintain safe and reliable electricity supply to customers.
This Regulatory Investment Test for Transmission (RIT-T) Project Specification Consultation Report (PSCR) identifies the need to replace line insulation systems on 14 transmission lines as the preferred solution to manage the risk that these assets will fail.
Line insulation systems are essential part of a transmission line. They are used to support the high voltage line conductor and insulate it from the transmission towers. The line insulation systems in question are in poor condition have reached the end of their technical lives. There is an increased risk that the line insulation systems may fail to support the conductor, resulting in the conductor becoming detached from the transmission tower with consequential safety risks and the potential for involuntary load shedding on parts of the network.
